My featured poet is a high school junior who transferred to Central from Burke. I nominated Ke’Nya Reed for Central High School’s featured poet because she is a kindhearted person who always speaks her mind, two qualities of a great poet. Here are some questions and answers from the interview with Reed.
Kylee Fulkerson: What inspired you to write?
Ke’Nya Reed: It helps me get away from the world around me and escape to my own thoughts.
KF: How often do you write?
Reed: Depending on how I feel, I write about every other week. It is also a great emotional escape.
KF: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Reed: I would like to be an engineer and build rockets for NASA.
KF: What is your dream for the next 10 years?
Reed: I would like to play college volleyball and live in peace.
KF: How do you want your poetry to impact your readers?
Reed: I want to inspire teens my age to write poetry so that they can feel heard without using physical force.
