Making time for myself within routines
Most of us have some form of morning routine, whether it’s a giant cup of coffee or a granola bar you quickly grab while heading out to school. They can look different for everyone. Lately, I’ve decided to implement something new into mine.

Most of us have some form of morning routine, whether it’s a giant cup of coffee or a granola bar you quickly grab while heading out to school. They can look different for everyone. Lately, I’ve decided to implement something new into mine.
My routine is a very scheduled, and necessary start to my day. I wake up at a certain time, put on my clothes I lay out the night before, followed by my skincare and some form of breakfast. Overall, it can be pretty stressful and overwhelming on days I’m not as motivated. I can’t break away from my routine, so I’ve decided to add time for morning meditation.
I think it works perfectly within my day. It helps me calm some of my anxiety and stress for the school day, and makes the day seem more approachable as a whole. I’m not a pro at meditating whatsoever, and honestly it doesn’t work for me everyday. But I’ve noticed the attempt, and routine of meditating daily have beneficial impacts on my life.
In my hectic, stressful, anxiety-ridden high school schedule, the 5-10 minutes each morning to just sit quietly and be with myself are amazing. Relaxation for myself is something I’m really not good at, so this is my attempt at somewhat making it better. Knowing that’s what I’m working towards is really motivating and makes me feel good.
Even on days where I just cant focus on meditation, I spend that extra time in my mornings doing other things I love like picking up the book I’ve been neglecting to focus on The Great Gatsby, adding some drawings to my sketchbook, journaling or moving around with some yoga.
If this sounds like you, I would truly recommend making time for yourself in your day, doing something you love. I know mediation, and the things I’ve listed above aren’t everybody’s go-to relaxation tactics, but you can really do anything you find enjoyable.
Also, if you aren’t an early riser like me, you can do these activities at any time of the day. Mornings are just what works best for me, but if you need time to decompress after school finding an activity to do then would be just as beneficial.
Allowing ourselves to not be productive and focus on ourselves for only around 10 minutes each day, is something I think everyone deserves. Implementing morning meditation into my schedule has really helped me with my anxiety and made the day much less stressful. Relaxation isn’t easy for me, but I’m using my morning routine to fix that and work towards my goals for 2022.
